Tax Pros Can Earn CPE Credits at the 2015 IRS Nationwide Tax Forums

The Internal Revenue Service today reminded tax professionals to register for the 2015 IRS Nationwide Tax Forums, which begin this July. The forums provide up to 18 Continuing Professional Education credits for enrolled agents, certified public accountants, certified financial planners, Annual Filing Season Program (AFSP) participants  and other tax professionals.  Attendees who pre-register two weeks before any of the five forums held throughout the country this summer will save $130. The IRS Nationwide Tax Forums are three-day events that provide tax professionals with the most up-to-date information on federal and state tax issues presented by experts from the IRS and partner organizations through a variety of training seminars and workshops. 2015 Registration Fees, Dates and Locations: The cost of enrollment for those who pre-register is $230 per person, a savings of $130 off the late or on-site registration price of $360.  Pre-registration ends two weeks prior to the start of each forum. Many Tax-Exempt Organizations Must File with IRS by May 15; Do Not Include Social Security Numbers or Personal Data

The Internal Revenue Service today reminds tax-exempt organizations that many have a filing deadline for Form 990-series information returns in mid-May. With the May 15 filing deadline facing many tax-exempt organizations, the IRS today cautioned these groups not to include Social Security numbers or other unneeded personal information on their Form 990, and consider taking advantage of the speed and convenience of electronic filing. Form 990-series information returns and notices are due on the 15th day of the fifth month after an organization’s tax year ends. Many organizations use the calendar year as their tax year, making Friday, May 15, the deadline for them to file for 2014. Many Groups Risk Loss of Tax-Exempt Status By law, organizations that fail to file annual reports for three consecutive years will see their federal tax exemptions automatically revoked as of the due date of the third required filing. The Pension Protection Act of 2006 mandates that most tax-exempt organizations file annual Form 990-series informational returns or notices with the IRS. The law, which went into effect at the beginning of 2007, also imposed a new annual filing requirement on small organizations. Amended Return Question: Can I file an amended Form 1040X electronically? Amended Return Answer: The Form 1040X (.pdf), Amended U.S. Individual Income Tax Return, is not accepted electronically; only an original tax return may be electronically filed. 2014 Tax Season IRS Tax Refund Cycle Code Chart and Resources The IRS Tax Refund Site, Where is my Refund, is often overloaded.  When you efile, your return is usually accepted within 24 hours of filing by the IRS.  The wait can seem endless for the orange bar to move to approved.  Many have reported that their bars disappear completely a day or two before their tax return is approved. IF THE WMR ACCEPTED AND APPROVED BARS HAVE DISAPPEARED PLEASE READ! A quick way to determine if your refund is about to be approved is to go to the IRS website and request a transcript.  You can also call and request a transcript at 800-829-1040, however, checking online is easier.  If you are able to request a 2014 transcript, check the tax codes and if you have an 846 code, it means your refund has been approved.
