Delta State University officials have confirmed that one person has been killed and say they have locked down their campus after there were reports of an active shooter on campus. Local Police are now reporting the person killed was history professor Ethan Schmidt. University spokeswoman Jennifer Farish confirmed that the lock down began Monday morning and that students, faculty and staff are being advised to take shelter. http://www.deltastate.edu/ The university’s Twitter account is keeping staff and students up to date:   Campus remains under lockdown. With tuition bills skyrocketing, and room and board going through the roof, students and their families are looking for creative ways to finance a college education. Unfortunately, in their efforts to pay the bills, many of them are falling prey to scholarship and financial aid scams. According to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation’s consumer protection agency, unscrupulous companies guarantee or promise scholarships, grants or fantastic financial aid packages. Many use high pressure sales pitches at seminars where you’re required to pay immediately or risk losing out on the “opportunity.” Some unscrupulous companies guarantee that they can get scholarships on behalf of students or award them “scholarships” in exchange for an advance fee. Best College Reviews, an independent college search and rankings website, has published a ranking of the 25 Best Online Colleges in America. Northern Arizona University leads the rankings, which were compiled after surveying over 400 institutions who provided at least one degree fully online to measure affordability, flexibility, and academic rigor and support.
